Braves' Snitker gets 2-year extension

ATLANTA (AP) Braves manager Brian Snitker agreed to a two-year contract extension after guiding Atlanta to the NL East title and its first playoff berth since 2013. The deal announced Monday includes a club option for 2021.

The extension is sure to be met with approval in a young clubhouse. The players constantly praised Snitker and how he always had their back.

"He did a remarkable job," star first baseman Freddie Freeman said. "It's really hard to handle 25 to 35 personalities, and he's one of the best at it."

Brewers-Dodgers shifts to LA tied at 1

LOS ANGELES -- While the upstart Milwaukee Brewers continue to make noise in a championship-caliber season, it is the old-guard Los Angeles Dodgers who have been forced into an identity change as the National League Championship Series shifts to the West Coast.

With the series tied 1-1 heading into Game 3 on Monday at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers will look to get their dependable starting pitching back on track. The offense has provided a late lift for the Dodgers in each of the first two games of the NLCS, ultimately rising to the occasion for a victory in Game 2.

Brewers' bullpen showing cracks in NLCS

MILWAUKEE (AP) Told he had the day off after pitching three shutout innings in the NL Championship Series opener, hard-throwing Milwaukee left-hander Josh Hader wasn't expecting a call to the bullpen.

After watching Brewers relievers blow a late three-run lead in Game 2, Hader would have embraced back-to-back outings, high pitch count and all.

MLB ousts LHP Suter from Brewers' dugout

MILWAUKEE (AP) Injured Brewers pitcher Brent Suter says he's no longer allowed in the dugout during the NL Championship Series. He was with his teammates for Game 1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Suter tweeted about the situation before Game 2 on Saturday and then deleted his post. A spokesman for Major League Baseball says players who are not on the 40-man roster are not allowed in the dugout during playoff games.

Yankees' Gregorius to have elbow surgery

NEW YORK (AP) The New York Yankees say star shortstop Didi Gregorius will need Tommy John surgery on his right elbow after injuring himself during the AL Division Series.

The team said in an unexpected announcement Friday that surgery has not yet been scheduled. Manager Aaron Boone is optimistic Gregorius will spend most of next season with the club, but the team will know more after surgery.

Girardi interviewed in Rangers' search

World Series champion Joe Girardi was interviewed Friday by the Texas Rangers in their search for a new manager.

Girardi, the former New York Yankees and Florida Marlins manager, was the first person with big league managerial experience interviewed by the Rangers as they look to replace fired manager Jeff Banister.
