MLB Recent Player News
|8/19/2017||Daniel Murphy, Was, 2B|
|Murphy has been scratched from the Nationals' lineup for Saturday's game at San Diego.
Analysis: The Nationals didn't given a reason for Murphy's removal, though he has struggled at the plate of late. The All-Star second baseman is just 6 for 30 with two extra-base hits over his last 10 games. Howie Kendrick will shift from left field to second base for Saturday's matchup, with Andrew Stevenson inserted into the lineup at the leadoff spot.
|8/19/2017||Yoán Moncada, CWS, 2B|
|Moncada is dealing with shin splints and was scratched from the White Sox's lineup for Saturday game at Texas.
Analysis: Yolmer Sanchez will take the talented rookie's place at second base. A day off may do Moncada good anyway, as he's 2 for 23 over his last six games.
|8/19/2017||Welington Castillo, Bal, C|
|Castillo (illness) will return to the Orioles' lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels.
Analysis: Castillo had been out since Tuesday and wasn't in Saturday's initial lineup before being deemed healthy enough to go. The catcher has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 contests, batting .356 (16 for 45) with three homers and 11 RBIs over that span.
|8/19/2017||Aroldis Chapman, NYY, P|
|Chapman will not serve as the Yankees' closer going forward. Manager Joe Girardi said he will be used in different situations until working out his recent struggles.
Analysis: This is a stunning development for the flame-throwing left-hander who has long been one of the top closers in baseball. He's suddenly become totally unreliable, getting scored upon in four straight appearances, allowing seven runs, five hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings. Chapman recently complained of a hamstring problem, but he's appeared to be at full strength when on the mound. Either David Robertson or Dellin Betances will get the save opportunities for now.
|8/19/2017||Hunter Renfroe, SD, RF|
|Renfroe has been demoted to Triple-A El Paso.
Analysis: This moves comes as a bit of a surprise considering Renfroe has been a regular in the middle of the Padres' lineup and is second on the team with 20 home runs. However, he's gone 19 straight games without one and is batting .152 in his last 10, so the Padres will look for him to get his swing worked out in the minors.
|8/19/2017||Dexter Fowler, StL, CF|
|Fowler is not in the lineup Saturday due to back tightness.
Analysis: Fowler could be available off the bench, so this appears to be nothing serious.
|8/19/2017||Joc Pederson, LAD, CF|
|Pederson has been optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Analysis: The acquisition of Curtis Granderson on Friday made the struggling Pederson expendable.
|8/19/2017||Chris Davis, Bal, 1B|
|Davis is not in the lineup for a second straight game Saturday due to illness.
Analysis: Anthony Santander will get a second straight start in his place.
|8/19/2017||Yu Darvish, LAD, P|
|Darvish has been placed on the disabled list due to back tightness.
Analysis: Darvish left his most recent start due to the back problem, though it was believed to be a very minor issue and he was not expected to miss his scheduled start Tuesday. However, the Dodgers clearly want to be careful with the star right-hander, though it appears he should only miss one turn in the rotation. He's slated to return next Sunday versus the Brewers.
|8/19/2017||J.D. Martinez, Ari, RF|
|Martinez missed Friday's loss to the Twins with an illness but is back in the lineup Satuday.
Analysis: He's homered eight times in 25 games since joining Arizona, driving in 20 runs.

Analysis: Godley had his shortest major league outing since his first of the season on April 26, and the hits he allowed were a season high. He was 2-1 with a 1.78 ERA in his previous four starts.
|8/19/2017||Ervin Santana, Min, P|
|Ervin Santana improved to 13-7, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks in 6.0 innings, as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-3 on Friday. Santana struck out six, ending the game with a 3.33 ERA and 1.15 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: The All-Star right-hander's 13 wins are one off a career high. He has a poor 1.53 WHIP in his last three outings but has been good at limiting the damage, allowing a combined seven earned runs.
|8/19/2017||Jorge De La Rosa, Ari, P|
|Jorge De La Rosa allowed one run on two hits and one walk in 0.2 innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks lost to the Minnesota Twins 10-3 on Friday. De La Rosa did not strike out a batter, ending the game with a 4.70 ERA and 1.36 WHIP on the season.|
