NHL Recent Player News
|10/20/2017||Cam Fowler, Anh, D|
|Fowler, who missed the opening round of last season's playoffs with a right knee injury, appeared to be favoring the same knee after absorbing a hit and going into the boards in the first period of a game against the Montreal Canadiens on Friday night.
Analysis: Fowler, who signed an eight-year, $52-million contract extension this offseason, skated off the ice with the help of teammates and did not return. He has teamed with Josh Manson to form Anaheim's stop defensive pairing.
|10/20/2017||Adam McQuaid, Bos, D|
|Boston Bruins added a name to their injury list on Friday when they announced that McQuaid will miss the next eight weeks while recovering from a broken leg. McQuaid suffered the break to his right fibula during Thursday night's win over the Vancouver Canucks when he blocked two shots during the same shift.
Analysis: McQuaid, 31, missed about 29 percent of the Bruins' games over the last five years, playing in 266 of 376 games. He has one assist in six games this season.
|10/20/2017||Andreas Athanasiou, Det, C|
|Athanasiou will end his holdout after agreeing on a one-year, $1.3875 million contract with the Red Wings.
Analysis: A restricted free agent, Athanasiou and the Red Wings weren't able to come to terms on a deal during the offseason and preseason, leading to speculation he would play the season in Russia. The 23-year-old ranked second among Detroit players with 18 goals last season, his second in the NHL. Athanasiou had been in Sweden during the holdout, so it's still unclear when he'll be able to rejoin the Red Wings and get into games.
|10/20/2017||Colton Parayko, StL, D|
|Parayko left Thursday's game after taking a shot off his hand.
Analysis: The Blues have yet to provide an update on how long Parayko could be sidelined.
|10/20/2017||Patrick Eaves, Anh, RW|
|Eaves remains out with a lower-body injury.
Analysis: The injury has caused him to miss all but two of Anaheim's games this season.
|10/20/2017||Tyson Jost, Col, C|
|Jost is reportedly going to miss two to three weeks with a lower-body injury.
Analysis: This is a tough setback for the 2016 first-round pick who had seen a recent increase in playing time but has only two points through six games.
|10/20/2017||Erik Gudbranson, Van, D|
|Gudbranson has been suspended for Friday's game in Buffalo for his hit from behind on Boston Bruins forward Frank Vatrano.
Analysis: Gudbranson hit Vatrano at 6:13 of the first period at Boston on Thursday night. The Canucks blue-liner also received a game misconduct and a fighting major after being challenged by Boston's Tim Schaller following the hit.
|10/20/2017||Boone Jenner, Cls, C|
|Jenner has been activated from injured reserve.
Analysis: Jenner had been sidelined since prior to training camp with a back injury. Jenner recorded 34 points (18 goals, 16 assists) and 52 penalty minutes in 82 games during the 2016-17 season.
|10/20/2017||Ben Bishop, Dal, G|
|Bishop stopped 27 shots in Thursday's 5-4 win in Arizona.
Analysis: Bishop wasn't thrilled with his performance against the winless Coyotes, but he did record a third straight victory. He has a favorable matchup Saturday if he starts against Carolina. Besides the game being at home, where Bishop is 3-0-0 with a 1.07 GAA this season, he is 7-1-1 with a 1.76 GAA lifetime versus the Hurricanes.
|10/20/2017||Tyler Seguin, Dal, C|
|Seguin scored two goals in Thursday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Seguin has yet to go back-to-back games without scoring and leads Dallas with five goals. He has five points in the last three games, posting a plus-1 in each.
|10/20/2017||Jamie Benn, Dal, LW|
|Benn had a power-play goal and two assists in Thursday's win over Arizona.
Analysis: Benn has racked up three goals and four assists over his last five games and is a plus-4 in the past three.
|10/20/2017||Clayton Keller, Ari, C|
|Keller had two goals, an assist and two penalty minutes in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Stars.
Analysis: Keller was a plus-1 after posting a minus-5 in his previous two games. The 19-year-old already has a pair of two-goal games and leads the Coyotes with five. "He's a special player. He's not the biggest guy, but when he gets the puck around the net, he knows how to get it in," Dallas' Ben Bishop said of the 5-foot-10 Keller, who trains with the goalie in St. Louis during the offseason.
|10/20/2017||Derek Stepan, Ari, C|
|Stepan had two goals and an assist while posting a plus-2 in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Stars.
Analysis: Stepan was acquired in the offseason to give the Coyotes the quality No. 1 center they have long lacked but hadn't performed like one until Thursday. He was a minus-5 without a goal through his first six games for Arizona, which remains winless.
|10/20/2017||Alexander Kerfoot, Col, C|
|Kerfoot had two goals, including one on the power play, along with an assist in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Blues.
Analysis: The 23-year-old rookie was very aggressive, recording six shots after totaling just four through his first seven NHL games. More performances like this one could help his ice time increase and potentially make him a fantasy-relevant player.
|10/20/2017||Alex Pietrangelo, StL, D|
|Pietrangelo had two assists and two penalty minutes in Thursday's win over the Avalanche.
Analysis: Pietrangelo was a plus-1 for the third straight game even though he didn't have a point in the previous two. He has 10 points through eight games, on pace to shatter his previous career high of 51.
|10/20/2017||Jaden Schwartz, StL, LW|
|Schwartz scored his team-leading sixth goal in Thursday's win at Colorado.
Analysis: Schwartz, who had a hat trick the previous night, has recorded at least one point in all but one of the Blues' eight games and has 12 points on the season. He's well on his way to the best season of his career.
|10/20/2017||Paul Stastny, StL, C|
|Stastny had a goal and an assist while posting a plus-2 in Thursday's 4-3 win at Colorado.
Analysis: The former Avalanche star, who still makes his offseason home in Denver, now has eight points in eight games and 601 for his career. The 600-point plateau runs in the Stastny family, with father Peter recording 1,239 points and uncle Anton accumulating 636. ''It's cool. It's special,'' Stastny said. ''Anytime we can add to that Stastny history and legacy, it's always nice.''
|10/20/2017||Jaromir Jagr, Cgy, RW|
|Jagr assisted on Calgary's only goal and finished at a plus-1 in Thursday's loss to Carolina.
Analysis: For the first time in his four games, Jagr played right wing on the Flames' top line with Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau. Jagr now has a point in back-to-back games after failing to get one in his first two. The 45-year-old nearly recorded his first goal with Calgary, but Scott Darling made a terrific glove save on his shot near the net.
|10/20/2017||Mike Smith, Cgy, G|
|Smith stopped 31 shots in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes.
Analysis: The 35-year-old played well following a four-day break. Smith has started all seven of Calgary's games in his first season with the team and has a solid .930 save percentage.
|10/20/2017||Sean Monahan, Cgy, C|
|Monahan scored Calgary's only goal and finished at a plus-1 in Thursday's loss to Carolina.
Analysis: Monahan has scored four goals in his last five games and is a plus-4 over the past four.
